Travel diaries:Maputo – Mozambique pt 2.

I have missed going places especially Zanzibar, that island gives me some sort of calm.If you live in Tanzania mainland and have not been to Zanzibar yet,I challenge you to do it this year.It will be nice if you take the ferry either when going, returning or both go and return. If you prefer flying, fast jet has come up with a cheaper and even faster option.

On a different note here is a throw back from Zanzibar  Maputo. Not with the best pictures but we will get there one day.

1.Before departing from the JNIA Dar es salaam this was around 3am and I arrived Maputo around 1400 hours because I was connecting flights at Addis Ababa, what a long route I took.

2. Where I stayed,Southern Sun hotel.I had made friends with almost all the staff by the day I was leaving.I miss their smiles as they greeted me with “Bom dia” every morning.I shared more pictures from the hotel here .

3. The best meal I had in Maputo – duck meat.It was cooked by a great chef who is also the restaurant owner. He seemed to be a great man,we talked a lot and he had so many stories to share about working as a Chef in the bush in Zambia previous years.

4. I got Inacio (the taxi driver who played multiple roles of a driver, tour guide, and photographer) to take a lot of pictures of me when visiting the Maputo Central Railway Station a place  that is highly recommended on trip advisor.

5. I went shopping on two different evenings and got a few things like this one dress I have been wearing so many times and some nice sun glasses. I am still thinking of what to make with that capulana (kitenge) .I was really confused with the prices and rates.I couldn’t tell if something was too pricey and had to convert to tshs now and then to see if it was what I could normally afford.Do you see part of the bathroom on the picture also?

6. I love vegetable soup and this was a nice starter before the duck meat above.I ate so much this day,I even took away some of my meal because I couldn’t finish everything. After my lunch at this nice restaurant I headed to Matola.

7. Dinner time at the hotel.

I really wish I took more and better pictures. If you scroll down my instagram page there are some pictures I posted while still in Mozambique that I have not included here you can go have a look @bintiesque.

I am also currently working on changing my blog’s look and I’m excited. Can’t wait to show you guys the changes.

Travel diaries:Maputo,Mozambique part 1.

Travel diaries:Maputo,Mozambique part 1.

I visited Maputo end of  September last year ,there was not much I did though. Knowing I was going to stay at the Southern sun Maputo prior to my trip I took my time and searched the hotel online.I wasn’t disappointed on arrival and it all made sense why the hotel ranked first on trip advisor.Having been there for four days only,I spent most of my free time chilling by the poolside at the hotel.I loved the hotel environment, decor, the breakfast and dinner buffets, and mostly the friendly staff. I had a beautiful room with the beach view worth waking up very early to catch the sunrise before heading out to the gym where being on the treadmill also came with a view of the waves on the ocean front.

Most of the reviews online discussed about the notable staircase at the hotel, something I really looked forward to seeing. It really is a beauty.

I mostly took pictures of the exterior of the hotel. I shared the interior and did a room tour on snapchat,so here are the rest of the pictures.

I will be sharing more of Maputo on the next post, please look out for the part two of my Maputo travel diaries. So the year has begun, what are your travel plans this year?I will be sharing mine on here sometime 🙂

Travel Diaries : My food experience in China

Travel Diaries : My food experience in China

I travelled to China end of August towards the beginning of September this year. One of the many things that were on my mind as I thought of my upcoming trip was food. I wasn’t sure if I should be excited or worried, haha. I had been eating Chinese a lot just before my trip and I wasn’t sure if what I had been eating in Dar is what I’d find in China. Having travelled to three of some of the major cities in China,I had different food experience in all of them.

In Beijing where I first visited, I stayed in a hotel that had continental buffets from breakfast to dinner and I ate at the hotel through out my stay. I knew I still had time to experiment with the Chinese cuisine because I was yet to visit a city very notable for its cuisine.

At breakfast I mostly had eggs, chicken or beef sausages, pancakes, fried rice, potato cakes and fruits.

During lunch and dinner I went for rice, a lot of meat and fruits.I eat a lot of meat, I always fill up my plate with meat and a little of the rest when its a buffet. I avoided trying out anything new.

And a lot of desserts 🙂

I enjoyed the meals in Beijing, I must admit. The next city I visited was Yiwu a very beautiful city. I had heard of frog legs meal before, but its until I went for my first lunch in Yiwu when I first came across them. This time around the so called continental buffets were not so continental. I did not have very many options. For breakfast I mostly has eggs, sausages and fruits. I had rice and chicken or beef mostly for lunch and dinner for the rest of my three days stay.

Then lastly I visited Chongqing a city notable for its distinctive spicy food. Our hosts were very excited to let us try the food there. Thats when I started missing home more than ever during the 12 days trip. I do not eat hot spicy food and everything I tried was it.

hot pot!

this picture was taken by one of our can tell she enjoyed her meal.

I had to wait for someone to try something before I served my self. This is where I thought I’d try and experiment with the food but almost everything was too spicy so I couldn’t. I ended up having fruits and desserts during dinner and lunch. If I had any meat I had to pick out the chilli before I could eat it and have something to cool it off on the side.

I couldn’t wait to get back home and have a plate of chips mayai. And the fruits that taste like I am used to. And that was the last city I visited during my stay in China. I Hope I will be able to visit China again  and explore more but at the mean time eat more Chinese here in Dar.
